FALLING FOR LOCAL FASHION: OCTOBER WHAT TO WEAR, NFA-STYLE

SEPTEMBER 23, 2016

by Margaret McClintock

Fall is far and away our favorite season to shop and we’ve heard from local stores around town that it’s their favorite time to sell. Autumn inventory provides more options for fashion — denim, boots, vests, long-sleeve tops, coats, scarves, bags and more. There are more pieces to layer with and, subsequently, more possibilities for showing off your own signature look.

For this month’s “What to Wear” article, we’re excited to partner with the Nashville Fashion Alliance (NFA) to showcase the works of designers and artisans from right here in Nashville. Members of the NFA team selected gorgeous looks and accessories to best highlight as much of the talented NFA community as possible. Our models were the lovely Stephanie Gonis, Nina Thomas, Cara Jackson and Julia Dyer who modeled looks for the NFA’s upcoming weekend of festivities, which include The Reclamation, VIP Preview for The Wardrobe Project and The Wardrobe Project market. Make plans to attend these events, as well as the Nashville Opera’s Don Giovanni at TPACand the Franklin Wine Festival. It will be a busy month of fun activities and you won’t want to miss the opportunity to show off a few new, locally designed looks!

Look #1:

Nina looks lovely in her LBD. This is one of those enviable dress-up, dress-down pieces as the fabric is jersey but the cut is formal enough to wear to the Opera.

MARGARET ELLIS JEWELRY

209 10th Ave. S., #309
Nashville, TN 37203

For further details, see the Margaret Ellis Jewelry SB Guide page here.

Under the ownership of Mclaine Richardson, we’ve loved watching the Margaret Ellis brand continue to grow and inspire. As we looked at her current collection, the mixed metal statement pieces all stood out and it was hard to choose just a couple to showcase. Remember, all of these pieces are handmade in her Cummins Station studio. Both this necklace and ring are ones we’d happily wear during the work week and on the weekend. They’d be sitting by our bathroom sink ready to put on at a moment’s notice!

This one necklace features three chains, each of a different size and color, making for one statement necklace that you’ll wear again and again. $825 at Margaret Ellis Jewelry

This is called the “negative space” ring but everything else about it is totally positive! Wear with your pearls, your diamonds, your gunmetal … this works with it all! $445 at Margaret Ellis Jewelry

‘TEAM MAMA’ OF NASHVILLE FASHION, CONNIE CATHCART-RICHARDSON

APRIL 3, 2016

by Liza Graves

Connie Cathcart-Richardson is a Nashville native who married her high school sweetheart, settled in Music City and was in the advertising industry for 25 years, 15 years of which was spent as a partner at Image Design Inc. But, at 46 years of age, with her daughter off at college, she knew she needed to get back to her creative roots she had loved so much before adulthood set in. The art of fashion had always called to her and she wanted to rediscover that passion and do something with it, right here in her hometown. We are thrilled to welcome Connie today as our FACE of Nashville!

LOCAL DESIGNERS PROVE NASHVILLE KNOWS FASHION

MARCH 31, 2016

By Alex Hendrickson

Photography by Ryan Hamlin; Styled by Milton White, The Fashion Office

A new generation of designers is chasing (and finding) their dreams and making their mark on Nashville and the city’s fashion community. Widely known for its country music, Nashville continues to showcase — and surprise folks with — the array of talent and achievements across many creative fields. Many moons ago, Nashville’s beloved Manuel defined Music City fashion with his artistic designs that continue to be worn by stars across the South and around the country. Attending events for this year’s Nashville Fashion Week, you’ll find it hard to believe that Nashville fashion was once characterized solely by these designs of rhinestones and cowboy boots and hats. A group of creatives is challenging this memory by offering a fresh infusion of talent and style. Nashville Fashion Week originated in 2011 with the intent to foster this growing community of talent. Their dedication to and passion for sustaining the local fashion community continues to flourish with the ever-expanding pool of talent that calls Nashville home.

During Nashville Fashion Week, April 5 through 9 this year, designers present their new collections and make you fall even deeper in love with the thriving local fashion scene. “Anna Wintour said, ‘You either know fashion or you don’t,'” shares local celebrity stylist Milton White of The Fashion Office. “Thanks to an assortment of talented fashion and design creatives, Nashville knows fashion!”

12 Swoon-Worthy Jewelry Pieces at Local Boutiques

February 5, 2016

by Margaret McClintock

Valentine’s Day. A day that frequently evokes exclamatory responses. When writing this article, I asked the two women nearest me (one who is engaged, the other married) to participate in a little word association about Cupid’s special day of romance. The bride-to-be cried, “Flowers! Hearts! Chocolate! Cards! Jewelry! I love everything cheesy,” while the married woman simultaneously and dryly declared, “Hate it. Always have.” After musing over all our opinions on the special day, we agreed that flowers and a little bling are the best ways to celebrate any romantic milestone, Valentine’s Day included. So today, just over a week before February 14, we’ve put together some of the choicest jewelry finds around town. Whether you’re celebrating Valentine’s or “Gal”entine’s Day this year, read on to get your dose of enviable eye candy.

Earrings

Triangle Chime Earrings

Margaret Ellis‘ Spring 16 Collection launched just a few days ago, and the results of her hard work are stunning. With a wide selection of earrings, necklaces, cuffs and bangles, it was challenging to pick a favorite. Our eye was instantly drawn to these clip-on earrings, which are designed with sterling silver or bronze with clip or omega. Try on a pair (starting at $415) for yourself at the studio and shop located in Cummins Station.
