Ellis sold her exquisite creations in huge, spectacular
retail outlets like Henri Bendel, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale’s
and Saks. But these days if you want one of her pieces,
you have to go straight to the source. Margaret Ellis Jewelry
in Cummins Station (209 10th Ave. S., Suite 309; p: 255-3255)
provides a showcase for her stunning work, which is also
available at select boutiques. Bronze and sterling are prominent
in her collection, though Ellis favors 22k gold—and
she adores working with pearls. “Fashion is my focus,
but not trends,” Ellis told us in an interview last
year. “I can’t make things cheaper than the
mass-produced stuff, but I can make it much better.”
